The use of artificial grass, also known as astro turf, bares huge advantages over everyday lawns or the unsightly black playground tiles found normally in local parks. Thanks to excellent drainage qualities artificial grass is dependable for dirt/water free, soft forgiving surfaces that are skin friendly, meaning no cuts and grazes and still in keeping with the garden thanks to its life like appearance.
Artificial grass makes for an ideal solution in providing a safe surface for children to play on climbing frames and swings with thanks to its exceptionally soft surface, enhanced further with padded matting which is laid underneath the turf itself. The matting is optional and available in various thickness up to 70mm, and when coupled with a 40mm artificial grass subsequently filled with miniscule rubber chippings to a depth of 20mm provides an extremely safe play area surface and helps to protect your children from inevitable accidents.
When installing artificial grass over larger areas that include a mixture of both playgrounds/play areas and lawns it is possible to install padded matting in specific areas as opposed to covering the entire garden, this of course helps to keep costs down. Remaining areas of the lawn can be sand or rubber filled dependent upon the type of grass used. These fillings are used primarily to set the finished grass blade length and can be used individually or in layers with rubber being at the top. Both methods are equally effective but to gain extra softness throughout the lawn or play area we recommend using a single layer of rubber chippings, if combined with the play range of artificial grass this makes for an extremely soft lawn surface with strength to withstand demanding use.
Artificial grass is not really challenged by any other safety product within this type of application thanks to vast product choice including colour, blade length, filling methods and padded mats.
